The Gold Standard in Oculofacial Care

Elite. Engaged. Excellent.

We are a group of board-certified ophthalmologists who specialize in microsurgeries of the eyes and face. Our Society is exceedingly selective. Earning membership is synonymous with maintaining the highest standards in our subspecialty: the eyes, tear duct system, and face. In addition to attaining the educational credentials required of any board-certified physician, our members must complete a rigorous, years-long training program.

What makes us special

The Oculofacial Society was founded in 1969 under its formal name, ASOPRS, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Since then, its members have been working to advance the art and science of oculofacial surgery in North America and around the world. We’ve introduced a rigorous training program for prospective practitioners.

All of our members are board-certified medical doctors who have trained four years as interns and residents in ophthalmology, followed by fellowship training in aesthetic and reconstructive procedures of the eyelids, eye sockets, tear ducts, and face. Most ASOPRS surgeons have trained six years or more. And before becoming members, all candidates must submit scientific research and pass rigorous oral and written examinations.
