We’re the Oculofacial Society

We are a group of board-certified ophthalmologists: doctors who specialize in the eyes, eye sockets, tear duct system, and face. We’re also microsurgeons recognized by our medical colleagues as experts in our subspecialty.

What it takes

Members must complete a rigorous set of admission requirements to gain admission to ASOPRS (now also known as the Oculofacial Society). In addition to the education and training required of all professionals board-certified in ophthalmology, our members must go further. They’re required to pass exhaustive written and oral exams, conduct original research, compose an original thesis, and train in two-year fellowships overseen by members of the Society.

Our mission is to advance education, research, and the quality of clinical practice in the fields of aesthetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery specializing in the face, orbits (eye sockets), eyelids, and lacrimal system (tear system).

Five decades and counting

Founded in Chicago in 1969 around a shared interest in professional development and envelope-pushing discovery, the Oculofacial Society has grown to include more than 870 members in 30 countries. The Society has helped to establish the oculofacial subspecialty in North America and around the world. Through educational initiatives and spearheading socio-economic activism, we’ve helped to centralize, organize, and expand knowledge—advancing the art and science of ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Leadership

Our Executive Committee oversees and guides almost every aspect of the Society’s actions: public health advocacy, government and intersociety liaisons, investment of member resources and finances, and educational and training programs.

More than two decades of giving back.

The ASOPRS Foundation is the Oculofacial Society’s philanthropic arm. Its members are dedicated to ongoing education, humanitarian projects, and research in our field—locally, nationally, and internationally, in harmony with the mission of the Society as a whole.

A bright future ahead.

YASOPRS (Young ASOPRS) is a group within ASOPRS—or, to use its patient-facing name, the Oculofacial Society—for members who completed their fellowship training 8 years ago or less. Its mission and purpose is to support these young professionals through the education and mentorship programs focused on early-career work and practice-building. The group also aims to engage with the broader Society as a sub-community and to serve as a social hub for its young members.

The Oculofacial Society has partnered with several exclusive international organizations. These groups—like our Society—are dedicated to the field of Oculofacial Plastic Surgery™ and hold educational conferences open to ASOPRS members.
